On the first floor, the section presents a series of early medieval artifacts and fragments of frescoes all from the church of the Saints Giovanni and Reparata to continue with a valuable core of artifacts of the eighth century which testifying the high level reached by the Longobards goldsmith art. From the excavations in the Church of Saint Giulia come fragments of decorative belt, a pendant in the shape of a cross and the decorative elements of a Longobards parade shield. To the Eleventh century belong the refined capitals from the Church of Saint Giorgio in Brancoli. From the following century are the sculptures from the factory of the Cathedral, represented here by the bust of Saint Martin. In the second half of the twelfth century the sculptor Biduino had a leading role in the city, his austere but elegant style is well presented here by the Madonna with Child Enthroned and the capital with lion heads. Fundamental sculptures dated back to the end of the century are also the two fragments with St. Peter and St. Jacob coming from the church of Altopascio. Behind them in the background is the wooden Cross from the church of Saint Maria dei Servi, extraordinary example of the local middle age paintings. The connection of the Lombard culture and that of Lucca characterizes the XIIIth century. From this period are the columns from the facade of the church of Saint Michel in Foro and the ones from the cloister of Saint Giorgio convent created by Guidetto from Como and his co-workers. The section ends with the beautiful wooden cross signed by Berlinghiero.
